High School Resources
The Iowa Pride Network
provides direct on-campus services, resources and support to Iowa’s
high school organizations and students. In addition, the Iowa
Pride Network provides a variety of networking opportunities and
sponsors various LGBT conferences and panels.
A key support tool we provide is
the Iowa Pride Network’s Regional Gay-Straight Alliance
Coalitions. These growing regional coalitions in Eastern, Central
and in the Cedar Valley Area, meet monthly to further develop
their leadership skills, reduce isolation, gain programming ideas
and coordinate activities statewide.
1. Create
Gay-Straight Alliances
High School Gay-Straight Alliances or “GSA”
for short, are student-led organizations that educate student
populations about LGBT issues and work to address anti-LGBT harassment
on their campuses and promote the safety and respect for ALL students.
GSA’s serve as a resource for high school students and often
provide an array of resource, support and social activities. Currently,
Iowa has approximately 40 GSA’s. Click on the link above
for resources to start/enhance your LGBT group.
2.
Network
with Regional GSA Coalitions
The Iowa Pride Network
Regional GSA Coalitions brings Iowa's high school GSA’s
together to work on coordinated activities across the state in
order to show community and solidarity, and provide a voice for
the over 15,000 LGBT high school students in the state of Iowa.
If you or your GSA would like to join a Regional Coalition, register
with the Iowa Pride Network and RSVP for the next Meeting. Meetings
are held throughout the year. Visit the Calendar to find out when
and where the next meeting will be held.
