On Saturday, January 9, 2010, the Iowa Pride Network will be hosting its 3rd Annual Queer Youth Summit for high school and college students throughout the state. The training will be held in Des Moines at Drake University, Meredith Hall from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Check-in will begin at 9:00 AM, and the conference will start promptly at 10:00 AM.
Lunch will be provided. This is a FREE event!

QUEER YOUTH SUMMIT MISSION
The mission of the Queer Youth Summit is to provide a safe forum for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied (LGBTA) students to discuss emerging issues in the LGBTA social justice movement and understand how their voices and action can create a more welcoming and affirming society. The Summit also aims to provide necessary tools and resources to students to ensure that their Gay-Straight Alliances (GSA) and student organizations are serving as catalysts for change.

Iowa Pride Network continues to strive for continue to make the conference relevant to the needs of the students and advisors who attend this conference. The Iowa Pride Network is calling for workshop proposals (workshop proposals from high school and college students are especially sought, as our aim is to increase the amount of peer-to-peer education and networking). If you are interested in presenting at the 3rd Annual Queer Youth Summit or would like more information, please download a workshop proposal form. If you are interested in submitting a proposal please try to focus on the mission of the summit which is:

- Implementing Iowa’s Safe Schools Law and/or Iowa’s Civil Rights Law
- Threats of cyber bullying
- Trans/Gender non-conforming panel or roundtable
- Criminal Transmission of HIV/AIDS
- Decreasing the rate of smoking in the LGBTQQA community
- Introduction to Queer Theory
- Trans education
- Queer people of color
- Combating the high rates of LGBTQ teen suicide, depression, cutting, and eating disorders
- Abusive relationships for LGBTQA people
